Many of you might be asking this same question so I’m posting with the answer here. Enjoy. The question is from apaforn

I want to get started doing 3d Animation, doing character modeling, or even level design. Anything that will let me create visual images of the ideas in my head… problem is how do you start? I’ve looked for good animation software, and the cheapest I’ve seen is 700 bucks, one was $4000. How do you get started if I don’t have the money to buy the software. Sure I can probably download, but I’d like to remain legal. Any ideas?

Answer: Sorry, but I can’t give you any recommendations on animating software, but if you are just looking to exercise your creativity, try garry’s mod, an add on for any game using the source engine (e.g. Half Life 2, Portal, Team Fortress 2, or Counter Strike Source). It comes with basic model components and mechanisms, and you can use these to create basic levels, vehicles and contraptions, but actually creating models is a pain since you have to learn LUA programming. Once again sorry for this mostly useless information, but I hope I helped anyway.
